What is the NDIS?

Launched in July 2016, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a new way of providing support for people with disabilities. Implemented by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), the scheme has meant big changes for people with a disability, their families and carers.

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is for Australians aged under 65 who have permanent and significant disability.

The NDIS takes a lifetime approach, investing in people with disability early to improve their outcomes later in life. The NDIS is a new way of doing things that gives participants the ability to choose and control the supports they use to get involved in their community, workplace and social life. The NDIS is designed to help people get the support they need so their skills and independence improve over time.
